Game Closet Happenings – 2/9/12
Many of you have significant others that happen to be gamers. And why shouldn’t you? Hobby gamers are some of the greatest people on the planet. On an interesting note though, if you have a gamer in your life, you can definitely find a great and fitting gift at The Game Closet for Valentine’s Day.
No need to get something that’s iffy. No need to try to be too fancy. And I’m pretty sure that whatever you buy for them here will definitely beat a box of chocolates
On to the weekly announcements…
MAGIC THE GATHERING
Dark Ascension has really taken off. If you haven’t picked any up, you are definitely missing out on some cool stuff. People are already starting to make decks based around the cards in the set.
We’re still running our events as usual. We’ve got a Standard tournament this weekend with bonus prizes! We’re also looking to add some Legacy tournament to the schedule if there’s interest.
We should have a restock on Dark Ascension Intro Packs on Friday. And for those that need them, we have an extremely limited supply of Fat Packs in right now.
We also got copies of the Magic Comic Book #1 in today. This is a neat way to keep up with the storylines within the game. There is also an alternate art promo card in each one.
COLLECTIBLE CARD GAMES
Our players are beginning to show up for more games regularly. We’re getting more players requesting play for Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Cardfight Vanguard. Get on our message forum and Facebook page to exchange info and availability to we can get more events happening on these.
The YGO Dragons Collide decks are here and ready to be sold!
We just got in contact with the American Distributor for Cardfight Vanguard and should hopefully have the product in store within the next 7-10 days.
The new Pokemon boosters for Black & White Next Destinies should be arriving Friday afternoon.
We got a whole new selection of playmats in. Lots of different styles.
ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Wizards of the Coast had some neat Dungeons & Dragons releases this week. The most important of the items this week is the Heroes of Elemental Chaos player’s option book. This has some neat things for character building building.
There was also a new series of hardback graphic novel style D&D books from IDW Publishing. They tell the stories of various D&D characters. They’re pretty neat and are supposed to have follow-ups in the coming months. There’s even one based on the Dark Sun setting.
There was also a new Haunted Temples map pack.
Lots of dice restocks this week. This includes sets, d6 bricks, bags, and single dice as well.
Knights of the Dinner Table #183 is in.

Magic the Gathering latest expansion Dark Ascension is on sale today. We’ve got Intro Packs, Fat Packs, Booster Packs and even lots of single available. Get in here and pick some up!
We’re also entering week five of our Privateer Press Journeyman League. This has been a good success. The next normal league starts in just a few weeks. Now’s a good time to get more stuff assembled and to get ready to rock.
The Game Closet has slowly been adding more events to our calendar. Be sure to stay on top of that as to not miss out on all the fun.
If you haven’t taken the time to sign up on our message forum, you should definitely do so. It’ll keep you up to date on weekly updates, restocks, and new releases.
And additionally, if you want to save money when shopping with us, you definitely want to sign up on our Facebook and Twitter pages here on our front page. We put out “secret passwords” to get discounts and freebies, but we only announce them via those outlets.
Events, events, and more events!
If you’re into Privateer Press stuff (Hordes/Warmachine) you definitely need to take part in our Journeyman League. We’re only in week three right now, so there’s plenty of fun to be had.
We’ve got the Magic the Gathering Dark Ascension prereleases coming up this weekend. We’ll be hosting events on Saturday AND Sunday. This should make it easier for those of you that have busy weekends. We’ll also be doing discounts and specials for those play multiple events this weekend.
Speaking of which, for starters, if you play Friday Night Magic this week and play in Saturday’s prerelease your name will go into a drawing for a prize.
Space permitting, we’ll be doing another Malifaux demo day this Friday as well from 2pm to 4pm.
We’ve got multiple organized store events for Dungeons & Dragons. We’re also trying to round everyone up to play Warhammer 40K again.

Happy New Year
We will be open during our regular business hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day: Saturday 11am – 8pm, Sunday 1pm – 6pm.
We will also be hosting an MTG Standard tournament this Sunday. Other events will happen as normally scheduled this week.

Changes Coming For the New Year

Halloween Weekend Events
We’ll be keeping normal business hours this weekend. But not only will we have normal business hours, we’ve got some cool events this weekend too.
Friday is our Longest Night event for Warmachine/Hordes. It will have specific rules for building and playing, so be sure to check out the event calendar.
Friday Night Magic will have some neat Halloween themed giveaways this week.
On Saturday and Sunday we’ll be hosting our Innistrad Game Day events for Magic the Gathering.
And the following Monday (officially Halloween), we’ll be hosting out Trick or Treat themed event for our Monday Night Casual format.
Clash For the Cure
We want to remind everyone that the Clash For the Cure event is this Saturday! All spaces are sold out. However, you can still contribute by showing up and buying raffle tickets for cool, unique items. The American Cancer Society is a worthwhile cause to contribute to, so please come down to the store and support our efforts this weekend.
This also means that all the gaming space will be used up. This means there will be no scheduled Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic even on Saturday.
We are adding a Magic event to Sunday. All players will receive one booster pack and one promo card just for participating. Entry fee is $10 and will start at 1:30pm.
Also, we’ll begin our double Friday Night Magic events on Friday October 21st. Details will be on the calendar shortly.
And finally, next week we will begin our Game Closet poker night. This game will only be available to Game Closet regular customers or long term friends of the store.
